Despair and the Song

Resisting the Status Quo

View of the ceiling in my studio 2026

It is said that the artworld always anticipates culture. In a narcissistic human world, the top predator grabs control of the narrative for the purpose of hoarding power and approval. Anything that challenges the top predator’s self-image must be erased. Well I know I just mixed metaphors with breathtaking casualness and flimsy credentials but I do think they hold. I am making corollaries between animal and human behavior, the food chain and politics for the status quo as well as interpersonal relationships. My assumptions are based on what I’ve often written about, but I’m not the only person writing about it, that we live in a narcissistic culture whose dynamics are mirrored in every aspect of our exisitence.
